Changes to number plate regulations from 1st January 2021

The British Government have implemented new regulations for vehicle number plates, which are explained here following an announcement from the MCIA.

EU Flag

Starting from the 1st of January 2021, the inclusion of the EU flag will not be permitted on number plates fitted to UK vehicles.
Vehicles that are registered on or before the 31st of December 2020 are allowed retain the EU flag on their number plate(s).

British Standard for number plates

Starting from the 1st of September 2021, a new British Standard will be introduced, which will be applicable to all number plates first fixed to vehicles from that date.
